Why Bulk Parameter Editor exists
Parameter work is a dozen small jobs that Revit makes you do a dozen different ways. Writing one value across a category is a selection and a Properties field. Find-and-replace across a parameter is a schedule and manual retyping. Copying one parameter into another, fixing inconsistent capitalisation, or moving a project parameter onto a shared one - those are usually a plugin each, or an afternoon.
How Bulk Parameter Editor works
Pick the categories you want to work on from a fixed list of nineteen, as many at once as you need, with an optional level filter, and load the elements.
The family and type list populates with counts, so you can untick the groups you did not mean to include before touching anything.
Choose the operation: write values in bulk, find and replace within a parameter - with regular expressions and case sensitivity available when a plain match is not enough - transform case, copy one parameter into another, combine several into a template, swap a local parameter for a shared one, or create and bind a new shared parameter.
The six editing operations confirm what they are about to do - how many parameters across how many elements - before they write. Creating and binding a shared parameter runs immediately, because it adds a parameter rather than changing values.
Afterwards the footer reports considered, applied, skipped and failed counts, and the whole run is one undo.

Each kind of parameter edit means a different workaround - a throwaway schedule, a temporary filter, a manual retype - and each one leaves something behind to clean up.
After
The operation, the scope and the preview live in one dialog, get used once, and leave nothing in the project browser.
When to reach for it
- Setting a fire rating, phase comment or cost code across several categories before a data drop.
- Fixing a value that was entered inconsistently - wrong case, wrong prefix - across hundreds of elements.
- Migrating a local project parameter onto a shared parameter so it can be scheduled and exported properly.
What it does not do
- Read-only and calculated built-in parameters cannot be written to, by this or anything else.
- Writing to type parameters affects every element of that type in the project. The dialog has a separate toggle for it precisely because that is rarely what a bulk edit intends.
- It sets and transforms values. Deriving a value from a naming pattern with sequential numbering is a different job - that is Param Formula.
- Creating a shared parameter writes to the shared parameter file on disk. Ctrl+Z reverses the binding inside the project; it does not un-write the file.
- Swapping a local parameter for a shared one is a family-editor job. Open the .rfa, run that tab, then reload the family - the other six tabs need a project document.
- The document has to be modifiable. A read-only file is refused before the dialog opens, and a value that is only whitespace is treated as no edit rather than written as a blank.
- On a workshared model, elements owned by another user are skipped and counted rather than waited for.
Questions
- Can I set a parameter on elements from different categories at once?
- Yes - that is the main reason to reach for this. A multi-category selection in Revit's Properties palette goes blank as soon as the categories stop sharing a parameter; here you pick the categories deliberately and the operation applies across all of them.
- Can it find and replace text inside a parameter?
- Yes, it is one of the operations, along with case transforms and copying one parameter into another. Those are the edits that otherwise mean exporting to a schedule and retyping.
- What if I make a mistake on a few hundred elements?
- One undo. Each operation is a single undo entry, so a run across several hundred elements reverses in one Ctrl+Z. Individual elements that refuse a write - a type mismatch, a locked value - are skipped and counted rather than failing the whole batch.
- Can it create a shared parameter as well as write to one?
- Yes. Creating and binding a shared parameter to the project is one of the tabs, so you do not have to leave for the Shared Parameters dialog and come back.
