Dimensioning a facade is the part of a set nobody volunteers for. You pick a level, drag a string across the elevation, snap to the top of parapet, snap to each floor line, then start again one tier down. Then someone moves a slab by 150 mm and every string you placed needs checking. On a tower with repeating floors you are doing the same rows of dimensions on every elevation in the set, and the only thing that changes is the numbers.
Open a plan, elevation, section, ceiling plan or engineering plan - the tool refuses to run on a sheet or a 3D view - and click Auto Dimensions.
The dialog lists the wall types actually present in that view, with instance counts and heights, so you tick the ones you want rather than dimensioning everything. Scope switches between Exterior, Interior and All.
Choose which of the three tiers to place - Overall, Openings and Segments, Floor-to-Floor - and whether doors, windows and structural grids are included as references.
Set the details your standard cares about: dimension to the finish face or the core face, placement on the left, right or both sides, the offset from the wall in millimetres, and chained or separate strings. A fixed threshold skips openings under 300 mm, so a narrow slot does not get a dimension of its own.
The tool groups coplanar walls into facade groups and places native Revit dimensions in one transaction, then reports how many landed across how many groups.
Every elevation gets dimensioned by hand, and every design change means re-reading the whole facade to find what moved.
You configure once per view and spend your time checking the result instead of building it. The dimensions are native, so a model change updates them exactly as it always would.
