Sometimes you do not want to select things, you want to look at them. Which of these walls are interior and which are exterior, right now, in this view, without opening the type properties of each one and without leaving a set of view filters behind that someone has to clean up later.
One click applies a colour override to the walls in the active view - interior in red and exterior in blue together, or just the exterior ones, or just the interior ones. Walls set to any other function, such as foundation, retaining or soffit, are left alone.
Before the override is applied, each wall's existing appearance is recorded.
Clicking the same button again removes the highlight and restores what was there before, including any overrides the wall already had.
Nothing is left behind in the view's filter list.
Checking wall function visually means creating view filters and then remembering to delete them.
A toggle. On to look, off to go back to exactly what you had - using the button to reverse it, rather than Ctrl+Z, which moves the graphics back but not the tool's record of what it captured.
