Why Load Family Managed exists
Loading families one at a time is fine until you are setting up a project and there are sixty of them. Revit's load dialog takes a multi-file selection, but it tells you almost nothing about what you are bringing in - not the file size, not whether there is a CAD import buried inside, not whether Mark and Comments were ever set up. You find that out months later.
How Load Family Managed works
Browse to the families you want and pick as many as you like.
Each one is opened and run through eight quality checks - naming, file size, category, nested CAD imports, nested family count and the rest - before it goes anywhere near your project.
Every family comes back with a verdict: approved, approved with warnings, or rejected, with the failing checks listed first so you are not hunting for them.
If a family has Mark or Comments defined but empty, you can fill them in here and they are written into the family before it loads - which saves the source .rfa file on disk. A family with no Mark parameter at all is flagged but cannot be filled from here; that one is a family-editor job.
Untick what you do not want, load the rest in one go, and see which succeeded and which failed. Each family is opened in Revit to be checked, so picking a whole library folder takes a while before the list appears.
Export the validation report to CSV when the families came from someone else and the problems need sending back with them.

When to reach for it
- Project setup, where a standard family set gets loaded into a fresh model.
- Rolling out an updated office library across existing projects.
- Vetting a consultant's or manufacturer's families before they are in your file.
What it does not do
- A "rejected" verdict is advice, not a block. You can still load a family the checks flagged - the tool tells you, it does not overrule you.
- It validates and loads. Fixing a family that fails a check is still work in the family editor.
- Validation checks the family itself, not whether your project should be using it.
- Loading a family whose name already exists overwrites it silently, including its parameter values. The tool answers Revit's overwrite prompt for you rather than showing it - the whole batch is one undo entry if that turns out to be wrong.
- The thresholds are fixed and not configurable: file size warnings at 5 MB and 20 MB, face counts at 5,000 and 25,000, type counts at 50 and 200, twenty materials, and a blocked list of name tokens - copy, backup, old, test, temp, new.
- The Mark and Comments check looks for those parameter names in English, so on a German or French Revit every family flags as missing them.
- A family Revit cannot open is listed as rejected, with the open failure as its critical check. Families the tool opened to inspect are closed again when you close the dialog.
Questions
- How do I load multiple Revit families at once?
- Revit's own Load Family dialog accepts a multi-file selection. What it does not do is tell you anything about the families first. This adds the validation pass and a per-family verdict, which is what matters when the batch is large enough that you would not notice one bad file.
- What does it actually check?
- Eight checks covering naming tokens, file size, category, CAD imports nested inside the family, nested family count and related quality issues. Failures are listed before passes so the problems are the first thing you read.
- Can I fill in missing parameters before loading?
- Yes, where the parameter exists on the family but has no value. The tool offers a field, writes the value into the family document, and saves that .rfa file to disk before loading it. If the parameter does not exist on the family at all it is reported, but it cannot be created from here.
- Is this tool free?
